Elitch Theater
Denver, CO
historic theater interior renovation
Elitch Theatre was home to the oldest summer stock theatre in the country and hosted the screening of Colorado’s first moving picture in 1896. Many pioneers and famous faces of the theatre industry passed through this iconic American playhouse at one point in their career. Opened in 1891, the historic Elitch Theatre is located on the former site of Denver’s Elitch Gardens amusement park. With its last production in 1991, the historic theatre has remained vacant for almost 20 years. Our team worked to renovate the building to serve as a community center and restore its original use as a functioning theatre.
During this project I was lucky enough to be involved in from the conceptual stage through CDs, I supported the project team with the following:
-
historical research related to the zoning and permitting of the original structure
-
field verification and design layout of restrooms
-
renderings for client presentations
-
coordination with MEP consultants and GC to determine best ventilation solution
-
code compliance and life safety studies
-
Landmark document submissions and meetings
-
assistance with interior finish selection, design elements, and integrated detailing that considers historical significance
